The Cherokee tribe prefers to be called the Tsalagi. The word Cherokee means “lives in the woods.” This makes sense because they build their shelters in the woods. The Cherokee didn’t have a regular belief that the gods were communicate with the rulers, they believed something a little different. They believed that the earth is a place that was specifically made for the humans. As we believe the first humans in America came over land bridges, or by boat. The Cherokee came to the Southern United States, near Florida, and they scattered around in Alabama, South Carolina, Virginia, etc. The Cherokee had a living and survived for a long time. Today, we do still have full-blood Cherokee in the United States. Most of the full-blooded Cherokees live in the area of Oklahoma.
The Cherokee group had 2 shelters , one for the Summer and another for the Winter . They also lived in small villages near the water . Their houses were shaped in a squares , triangles and rectangle . They looked like little huts and teepees. The summer houses were made up from wood , bark and the Winter houses clay and mud . Cherokee group ate corn, beans , squash sunflower , deer , bear , and wild turkey . The Cherokee treated the Europeans with respect by feeding them and teaching them how to cook , but the Europeans treated them harshly by messing up their culture, changing their religion, language, and style of living.
The Cherokee special kind of arts and crafts that they made were pipe carving, rivercane basket, gourd arts, and pottery. The famous members of their tribes were Chief Bowl and Austenaco. Chief Bowl was the principal chief for the Cherokee. He lead his band from North Carolina to Missouri to Arkansas then finally to East Texas . Sequoyah did not know how to read or write in any other languages. Some other information that I learn about my tribe is that Religions are too complicated and culturally sensitive to describe appropriately in only a few simple sentences and we strongly want to avoid misleading anybody.
